My Day on the Carnival Spirit

The Majestic Carnival Spirit

On March 21st 2013 I was fortunate enough to be taken on a full day tour of the Carnival Spirit.

The Carnival Spirit leaves out of Sydney and cruises in and around some of the most beautiful islands in the South Pacific, exploring the tranquil surrounds of Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

Who is the Carnival Spirit for?

Really, anyone! From young couples to old couples, families and single travelers, there is a little bit of everything on a Carnival Cruise with a great Kids Clubs to keep 3-17 year olds entertained together with pools, spas and waterslides and even an under-age night club. There is a healthy mixture of all ages so it's great for families.

There are fantastic live shows on board from comedy and music to dance acts. The whole feeling I got on board was one of fun, relaxation and quality service the entire time.

What star rating would the Carnival Spirit get out of 5?

Typically a P&O cruise could be regarded as a 3 star cruise line. For the Carnival Spirit by contrast, you are looking at closer to 3.5-5. The cabin decor is a little dated but all in all the quality of entertainment offered on board, the fantastic casino area, the many outdoor options, the entertainment options and the spectacular service make a Carnival Spirit great value for money. So if you are looking to get the best bang for your holiday buck then look no further.

What's the best value-for-money cabin on a Carnival Spirit?

If you looking for a cruise and saving your hip pocket at the same time but want a bit of an upgrade from the usual inside cabin, go for cabin category 4K! Why? Category 4K are quoted at the same price as an inside cabin but they actually have a window with a fully obscured view blocked by a lifeboat. So, for the same process as an inside cabin you will at least have some natural light filtering in on a daily basis that will cure any cabin fever :)

Entertainment options on board: What's included?

*The Carnival Nightclub: full of great grooves, drinks and the best party you can have on the water.

*The Piano Bar: The Carnival Spirit has its own Piano Man playing all of your favourite songs. Join in and sing along.

*The Casino: The Carnival Spirit has a fantastic casino with plenty of tables with roulette, craps, blackjack and an assortment of poker machines if you wish to try your luck on board. You pay for anything you play in the casino separately like you would at any normal casino and you have the option of paying with cash for chips or having your chip spend billed directly to your cabin, which you then pay on top of any other additional expenses for the cruise.

*The Club Cool Jazz Club: Cool live jazz and rock bands rock out brilliant music that you can sip your cocktail along to and appreciate the talented instrumentalists playing great music til late into the evening.

*The Punchliner:  This where you can get all of your laughs on board, with leading Australian comedians brought in to entertain you. Don't miss out on that.

*The Mainshow lounge: Brings you amazing musical, dance and performance acts to keep everyone entertained. These are nights that are not to be missed.

What about the kids? What's on offer for them?

There is a smorgasbord of activities for the kids on board which will keep them occupied and entertained.

There is also after hours babysitting on-board where you can pay by the hour per child.

How much is babysitting?

After hours babysitting costs $8 per child per hour.
